5 Tips For Getting Better Pics Of Your Pets!

So I don’t professionally do pet photography. However if I am doing a family session, and they have a pet (dog/cat), I always try to capture their picture as well. This advice is based solely on my experience, and has worked well for me so far!

Tip #1

People tend to get the snacks/treats out too early! Don’t get the snacks/treats/or toys out until the moment you are about to take the picture! This little guy Loki was hanging out, and as soon as I ready to capture the moment, I brought a treat out. He immediately looked up directly at me and this was the moment we captured!

Tip #2

Let your pet play and get his energy out! Let him interact with the photographer and other people. Create a comfortable and safe environment so that your pet feels relaxed.

Tip #3

Let your pet do what they do. Don’t try to force them into a pose. Don’t make them wear anything that is uncomfortable. Just let them do their own thing. Typically when trying to capture a pet (in this situation a dog), I first let the dog run around, and sniff what they want. As the dog was playing and running around, he took a little break.

Tip #4

Take tons of pictures! Depending on your pet, you may need to take tons of pics! This is my dog, Jax! He is very active and loves to move around! He does not like staying still especially not for pictures! So I got my camera out, and I got a spoonful of peanut butter. I began snapping away as he was hopping around, and staring lovingly at the spoon. Although I took over 25 pictures, this was definitely the best one!

Tip #5

Don’t be afraid to capture pictures where they are not looking directly at the camera! I love how this picture shows little Pablo’s rolls. He looks so comfortable just sleeping and it is perfect! This picture shows him in his environment just being comfortable, and it’s the best!

Hope these tips are helpful to you!
