Dear Nervous Clients: This One’s for You
Because feeling awkward in front of the camera is more common than you think
Let me start by saying this. If you're feeling nervous, unsure, or even a little camera shy, you are not alone.
You wouldn’t believe how many messages I get before a session that say something like, “We’re not photogenic,” or “We’re a little awkward,” or “We’ve never done this before so we have no idea what we’re doing.”
And every single time, I smile. Not because I think it’s silly, but because I truly understand. It’s vulnerable to be in front of a camera. And it’s even more vulnerable to be in front of a camera while showing love, laughter, and connection. That takes courage.
Here is the truth
You do not have to show up knowing how to pose.
You do not have to bring model energy.
You do not have to be perfect.
What you do need is to show up as yourself. The way you laugh, the way you look at your person, the way you hold your child’s hand or brush their hair off their forehead. Those are the things that matter. That is where the real beauty is.
My job is not to make you look like someone else. It is to capture you exactly as you are in this season of life. I will guide you the entire time, from where to stand to how to breathe to when to laugh. And yes, I will probably crack a few jokes to help get us there.
By the time we are halfway through the session, that nervous energy will start to melt. You will stop thinking about your angles and start thinking about each other. And that is when the magic happens.
So if you are feeling unsure, here is what I want you to know
You are enough, just as you are.
You don’t need to know how to pose.
You just need to be present.
I will take care of the rest.
And if you ever need a little pep talk before your session, I am just one message away. I’ve got you.
